Introducing Calculation of Transport Footprints with SAP Product Footprint Management

Earlier this year, SAP and BearingPoint announced a partnership on carbon and an environmental footprint solution for customers to help them reach zero emissions. (Press Release: SAP and BearingPoint partner on the race to Emission Zero).

Now a few months later, we are very happy to announce that based on this partnership and after many hours of hard and dedicated work, we released the first jointly developed capability feature in our innovative SAP Product Footprint Management: The calculation of Freight Transport footprints. This marks a huge milestone for our product and also for our customers.

We are now extending the capabilities to assess value chain footprints by enabling the calculation of emissions related to all inbound and outbound transports. The new features come with pre-configured content and comprehensive built-in analytics for visualizing the calculated transport footprints.

Nowadays, companies are under increasing pressure from the government to determine their carbon footprint on both corporate and product levels. To avoid costly penalties and comply with regulations, companies need full transparency on the emissions along their entire value chain. However, data acquisition, consolidation, and mapping are challenges that many companies face. With the new release of SAP Product Footprint Management, companies can determine the carbon footprint of their products from cradle to gate.

While many companies have already assessed their scope 1 and 2 emissions, assessing the entire value chain by introducing scope 3 emissions is key. SAP PFM assesses emissions from Scope 3 such as purchased goods and inbound transportation as well as well Scope 1 and 2 from the operations in one holistic approach. Our solution supports data gathering and calculations to help realize end-to-end carbon and environmental footprinting. This is just the beginning; in the months ahead, we will continue to enhance the functionalities.
